For the most part, Monster of the Week is a very smooth game to run, with straightforward consequences for moves and a clear description of what the game is about. Still, there are some things that can cause trouble for new Keepers (which is this system’s word for Game Master or GM), especially those coming from more mechanically complex systems like D&D. Also, there are a few rules that are just needlessly restrictive and can be easily made more flexible, along with a custom move I’ve designed that helps facilitate character development in a way that’s natural to an urban fantasy game.
