Did you know that studies have shown the concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) are at the highest levels since the past 650,000 years? Most scientists agree that this increased atmospheric CO2, the result of burning of fossil fuels, is causing global climate change. Large amounts of CO2 emissions are absorbed by the oceans which results in the acidification of water. Research indicates that water acidification poses substantial risks to all types of marine ecosystems and impacts the physiology, behavior, and population dynamics of all species. Note that this constitutes the most dramatic change in ocean chemistry in over 20 million years.
