Luckily cube farming is quite easy in Azur Lane and you can get most of the benefits by logging in daily and with a few battles per day you should be good. You can extend this to some extent by being very active in getting the cubes from the commissions.

How many cubes should you have? Your goal should be having around 400 cubes to be safe, with this amount you are guaranteed to get the UR ships as there is a pity system where you can redeem the UR ship once you have 200 builds in the event (equal to 400 cubes).

Since the events typically run for two weeks you should be okay if you have 300 once the events start and then cumulate the missing 100 along the two weeks (50/week).

How many cubes you typically get in one week and where to get cubes:
Dailies 7*3 21
Weekly 336 12
Log-in 3/6/9/12 per week (30/month)
Cruise mission, 5 per week
Commission 1 for normal, 5-8 for long ones

As such it should be doable to collect around 50cubes per week, even more if you play very actively and look out for the commissions.
