Discoveries Beyond Home To Find it in One's Heart #2 WolfQuest Anniversary Edition

As a pup, Dragonfly usually stayed behind the rest of his pack, never choosing to lead- he left that up to Flutter or Zenrose, or another one of his bolder siblings. He was most comfortable letting his parents and siblings make decisions for him, and was often the first to listen whenever Beetle sent the pups into the den or grass. He was also easily influenced, unfortunately, to follow one or more of his siblings away on some potentially dangerous adventure- though the guilt he felt when caught was never worth the brief moments of careless freedom he got out of it.

Dragonfly’s fondest memories are of the toys his father used to bring to the den for them to play with. He listened intently when Beetle told the story of where each item was found, and in his fascination the young pup imagined himself visiting those same places one day.

However, the toys were soon left behind as the family traveled up the steep hillside, hoping for better hunting opportunities. Dragonfly and his littermates were mostly excited for the food, which had always been their main motivation. They eventually arrived exhausted at the new rendezvous site, where they met their cousins. Dragonfly and his siblings made a great effort to greet their new packmates with tempting play bows, friendly tail wags, and in some cases a playful chomp. While they did manage to lure a few into their play, several of the other pups remained wary of the extra visitors.

When it came time for each family to leave the rendezvous site and learn the basics of hunting, the families parted ways- each pursuing their own unique teaching style and taking advantage of elk herds in their separate territories. Dragonfly eagerly helped his family take down several elk, enjoying the food and raven teasing opportunities after the hunt. He stayed with the pack for as long as possible, even as his siblings began to disperse. But eventually his curiosity got the better of him, and he left Lost River, hoping to explore a new unclaimed territory beyond the furthest mountain that he knew.

During this journey he crossed paths with a familiar scent, Tarantula’s scent- and he remembered the promise he had made to Beetle. To work together with his family, so that united they could build a much stronger pack. He had always been fond of the idea, so it became his responsibility to form a cooperative relationship with his cousin. The question is, will she want the same?
