In this episode of A Wild Glitch Appears! we explore the Enemy Control Glitch in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, there’s a glitch that allows you to take control of enemy units in combat. There are multiple ways to perform this glitch, so here is just one example.

The best way to perform this glitch is to start a battle on a map with easily accessible Action Tiles. An Action Tile can be any of the following:

A tile where an unfallen Snag lies, or used to lie.
A damaging lava square such as the ones in Chapter 18
Squares where Gorgon Eggs start
A Fog of War square that was targeted by a Torch staff.

The glitch can be performed without an action tiles, but executing the glitch this way requires frame-perfect timing, I think.

So in this example, I used the Torch Staff on a Fog of War square. Then I had an enemy unit end its turn on that exact square (which is considered an Action Tile after using the Torch on it) after attacking one of my units and surviving. It’s important that your unit does not counter attack the enemy unit and kill it.

Then, after the enemy attacked, received experience, and ended its turn, I hit the soft reset command by pressing L, R, A, and B at the same time. This soft reset must be executed JUST BEFORE the enemy turns grey, denoting that his action in combat has been expended.

If you timed the soft reset correctly, you should be able to choose Resume Chapter and load up your progress in that same battle. Now, you will have control over the enemy units, and you can use this glitch to do many many beneficial things. For example you can have enemies walk up to your Supply character and deposit their weapons. You can have them run away. You can have them discard their weapons as well.

One of the most useful things you can do with the Enemy Control Glitch, though, is you can repair items in your Supply. This can also be executed in multiple ways, but here’s one example.

Find an enemy unit who is holding a droppable item. Then, have that enemy move next to your Supply character. Place an item from your supply into that enemy’s inventory. Then end the turn, and slay that monster. When the monster drops an item, it will be the one you placed in his inventory, but when you re-acquire that item, it will be fully repaired, as if you used the Hammerne on it.

This repair trick can restore any item such as Elixirs, Dragonstones, and even the Sacred Twins.
