KRINGLE 101:
In this episode of Bake it Up a Notch, Erin Jeanne McDowell makes a trio of kringles perfect for any holiday celebration. These pastry rings are sort of like a giant sliceable danish- a butter pastry crust with a filling that is incredibly versatile. As a bonus- it keeps really well, making it the perfect make-ahead treat for the busy holiday season!

/”The best part about kringle is that while it’s still a project, it keeps extremely well. You can keep it at room temperature for up to four days, in the fridge it will keep for up to a week, and it can even be frozen, thawed, and refreshed easily. For me, that makes it a perfect make ahead baking project. It’s worthy of your holiday baking spread and makes a great gift (Wisconsin bakeries even ship it around the country). So join me in my Kringle Krusade! Let’s spread the word about this tasty pastry by baking as many kringles as we can!

But, fair warning: I also don’t believe in shortcuts when it really matters. So while this recipe is totally attainable, fair warning, it’s still a two day project. But it’s a project worthy of gifting; a project that can be made ahead and keeps well, and is even freezer friendly. My kringle recipes each make one large, sliceable oval kringle —perfect for sharing or for nibbling on all week long. It should also be noted that most folks making kringle would be likely to make more than one. Maybe because they’re planning to have company, or to give as a gift. In the true spirit of kringle, I encourage you to do the same. The dough can be doubled to make two kringles, if you feel like joining me in spreading this sweet pastry gospel./” Erin McDowell
