In Pokémon Yellow for the Nintendo Game Boy, there’s a glitch you can exploit in order to force an encounter with a wild Mew! It’s moderately simple to set up, and can be performed before you face Misty in the Cerulean City gym (which is fairly early on in the game.)

Here’s the infamous Pokemon Yellow Mew glitch:

This glitch is performed almost the exact same way as the Mew Glitch in Pokemon Blue and Red versions. The only difference is if you’re using an Abra to teleport, you will need to look in a different area of tall grass in order to find that Abra. In Pokémon Yellow, Abra can be found in the grass south of Cerulean City near the Pokémon Day Care guy.

Play through the game as normal until you reach Cerulean City. Stay at the Pokémon Center at least once before you attempt this glitch. Clear all of the trainers on the Nugget Bridge including the final Team Rocket guy. Then, go east of the Nugget Bridge to defeat the Hiker (he has a Machop and a Geodude) and the Youngster (the one with Rattata and Spearow) along the top path.

Next, go to the south of Cerulean City and catch an Abra in the tall grass near the Pokemon Day Care building. You may need to visit Bill and get the S.S. Ticket before you can access this area, but you don’t need to defeat Misty.

Do not interact with the trainer in the tall grass west of the Nugget Bridge until you catch an Abra. After you catch an Abra, align yourself north of the trainer in the tall grass, but make sure he doesn’t see you yet. You’ll most likely want to Save your game because it’s easy to mess this next part up.

Here’s where the glitch comes in: Stand on the spot just one square north of the trainer’s range of vision (again, I’m talking about the trainer in the tall grass that’s just west of the Nugget Bridge). What you want to do is walk one step down so that the trainer spots you. Immediately after walking into this spot, open the Start menu and use the Teleport ability with your Abra. This will bring you back to the Pokemon Center in Cerulean City.

If your Start button is locked, then you’re doing it right. Now, walk back up the Nugget Bridge and to the east. Hug the top wall to draw out the youngster just to the right of the previous youngster. This second youngster will challenge you to a battle. Defeat his Slowpoke, then use the Teleport ability once again to go back to Cerulean City.

Now, walk up the Nugget Bridge one final time. Your Start menu should automatically pop up while you’re walking. Cancel out of your menu, and watch in amazement as a wild Mew appears! Don’t forget to bring lots of Pokeballs for this, because he’s kind of hard to catch!

But yeah that’s the easiest way to perform the Mew Glitch in my opinion. If you’re looking for more Pokemon Yellow glitches, here’s how to get a Level 100 Nidoking before the first gym – https://youtube.com/shorts/YyFxxCkM70I
