As long as you have parallel port & a cheat cart your set. You will need to find a way to boot the UniROM 8.0K homebrew CD, I used FreePSXBoot in this video to get UniROM to boot for the /”no 2.1/” flash install but even a swap trick will work.
The Special asian [SCPH-5903] VCD PS1 model is were no bios came from ? I cant tell if they are talking about the emulator for PC or hardware exploit. So yeah you would have to go onto PSXDEV site findout but 2.1 dose work to boot CD-R backups on real PS1 hardware.
no is not really well known if you do a search for it vary little comes up on google or you tube for original PS1 hardware. It’s noted in exploits like UniROM to boot games & imports. From forums I have read it was actually a re-creations of special asian PS1 BIOS that supported Video CD playback.
Update DONT leave ANY FreePSXBoot into your system at same time as Flashed exploit I found out it causes issues, just leave tonyhax/unirom OUT
