Many codes in the obstetric section include digits for trimester, in childbirth, and after delivery.
Codes for hypertension include digits to indicate whether the condition was present before the pregnancy (pre-existing) or developed during the pregnancy (gestational hypertension).
Codes for gestational diabetes include digits to indicate how the condition is being treated–by diet, insulin or oral drugs.

Other codes include 7th digits to indicate which fetus has the condition being reported.
