Welcome to Game Hacking 101, the first video in the GHS Hacking Series!
In this video, learn how to get set up for Game Hacking FOR FREE on the PC in less than 5 minutes while avoiding viruses, ad-ware, and other surprises!
This video also covers how to get Cheat Engine working if you’re having issues getting it to run on Windows, and we show a few settings we recommend you change to get the most out of Cheat Engine before you start hacking games.

Here’s a summary of the recommended settings for your convenience:
1. Before opening Cheat Engine on Windows, right click the Cheat Engine icon then click properties, then Compatibility, and check “Run this program as an administrator.”
2. Then open Cheat Engine, and at the top, click Edit – Settings.
3. Under the General Settings menu, place a checkmark next to “Show all windows in the taskbar”. This allows you to hover over the CE icon in the task bar and show all Cheat Engine windows you have open (it really helps you to not lose windows as you open more tools in Cheat Engine).
4. Setup your hotkeys! It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you setup the following hotkeys to make using Cheat Engine scanning functions much easier. (Hint: don’t use the same keys as the game you’re hacking )
a. Pause the Selected process – Pause the game with Cheat Engine
b. Speedhack speed – Makes most games run faster (useful to fly through cutscenes)
c. Speedhack speed – – Decreases run speed of most games (or reverse speedhack )
d. Next Scan-Increased Value – Executes an increased value next scan
e. Next Scan-Decreased Value – Executes a decreased value next scan
f. Next Scan-Changed Value – Executes a changed value next scan
g. Next Scan-Unchanged Value – Executes an unchanged value next scan
5. Extra Custom Types menu is new to Cheat Engine 7.2. It allows you to add Big Endian value types to the Cheat Engine scan tool drop down box. This is incredibly useful for emulators since many of them use Big Endian byte arrangements rather than Little Endian which is used by default in PC games.
6. In the Scan Settings menu, place a checkmark next to Pause while scanning on by default. This causes Cheat Engine to freeze the game while it’s running a scan. This is mandatory to find some values that might be changing during the scan because you’d miss these values otherwise.
7. Place checkmarks for all the entries under “The all type includes” except for “All Custom Types” unless you’re dealing with emulators.
8. Place a checkmark next to “Don’t store the temporary scanfiles in the windows tempdir” then click the Folder Icon and choose a location you’ll be able to access easily. Cheat Engine creates temporary files where it stores the results of scans, and if you don’t delete these every so often, huge amounts of memory can be taken up over time as you use Cheat Engine. (It’s not that big of a deal, just delete the files once or twice a month unless you’re a CE Power User).
9. If you plan on using Cheat Engine with Emulators, place a checkmark next to MEM_MAPPED:
10. Under Debugger Options Menu, change the “Debugger method” to “Use VEH Debugger”. Windows Debugger is easily detected by games checking for external debuggers trying to get access.
11. And finally make sure you click OK at the bottom to save the changes you just made!
