Today I’m talking about long term characters and the skill books. The conclusion? Read them. The skill experience gain multipliers are massive and intended. You will waste hours upon hours trying to grind up a skill without them. Go ahead and plan to loot a school library or bookstore to start off your run. Build your character around what you want to do. The min/maxed perfect meta build does not care about your real life time spent playing that character to the point its enjoy-able. It might feel weird starting off your run the same way over and over, but its even crazier to regrind the same low level skills over and over without the boost.

To all of you who only enjoy the honeymoon phase of desperate survival and lose interest as soon as things get stable the next part doesn’t apply.

Stop taking slow learner and illiterate. You are only min/maxing yourself out of enjoying the game. It already takes forever to grind a skill up. Don’t make it take 30% longer. Even slow reader, a negative trait that doesn’t actually hamper much due to time warping will eat up important in game time during the ramp up of zombie population in the towns that you could have used to loot and prepare. Its not so simple as avoiding reading books during the first week, because you then give up the chance to get two to three levels in any of the life and living skills you actually want to use.
