In today’s video we are taking a look at one of the PvP OG’s, but in it’s shadow form, Shiftry! Shiftry is one of my favorite Pokemon to use in PVP for GO Battle League. Dating back to the early days of Caleb Peng’s original Double Grass line and then using it as my go-to in Open Ultra League, I have a fond memory of good times with Shiftry. Unfortunately, I put it aside and never really brought it back despite flirting with temptation. That is until now.
I was watching ChanhNguyen26 on Twitch who I highly recommend checking out as he is one of the brightest minds in Pokemon GO PvP and saw him running this team in which he was absolutely destroying opponents around the 3000 ELO range. I was sold, and I instantly invested in both a Shadow Shiftry and a Shadow Skarmory. Through 2 days so far, I am up almost 200 points sitting around 3100. A result I definitely did not expect to have happen.
The team is very weak to Fire types in the lead as well as charmers in the back, even worse Double Charm (Charmhole) in the back, which appears to be becoming more and more popular.
Overall, I have had A LOT of fun with this team and highly recommend it if you have the Pokemon available. It definitely requires an understanding of the match-ups and energy considering how glassy the two Pokemon in the back are as Shadows. I have not tried this team without the Shadow variants, but I feel that the Shadow Damage is necessary often to OHKO a lot of Pokemon.
In this video we use a team consisting of: Skarmory (Air Slash, Sky Attack, Brave Bird), Shadow Shiftry (Snarl, Leaf Blade, Foul Play) & Shadow Swampert (Mud Shot, Hydro Cannon*, Sludge Wave).
* denotes Legacy move (may require Elite TM).
