Soda Popinski Freeze Glitch in Punch Out!! (NES) – A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts

In Punch Out!! for the NES, holding Down on the D-pad to block will cause Soda Popinski to hesitate for an extended period when he ducks down for an uppercut. Blocking an uppercut is impossible in this game, but freezing him in place allows you to drop your guard and hit him with the quick left body blow, and it usually nets you a star.

So, this fight strategy works as follows:

Soda Popinski will always start the fight by throwing two hooks. Wait a beat, then interrupt each of his hooks with a right jab. After these two initial hooks, he will either throw two more hooks, or he will throw two uppercuts. Either way, hold down on the d-pad to block. This fight basically works like a flow chart.

If he throws hooks, you will block the first one, and right jab to interrupt the second one. Then, return to blocking, because, again, after he throws two hooks, he will either throw two more hooks, or he will throw two uppercuts.

If he throws uppercuts, hold down on the d-pad to block. This will cause Soda Popinski to freeze in place for some reason, so you can lower your guard and hit B to throw a left body blow. Hold down to block again, and he will freeze in place for another uppercut. Lower your guard once more, hit B button for a body blow, then immediately follow up with the Start button to throw an uppercut of your own. If performed properly, this should knock Soda Popinski down. When he gets back up, repeat the whole process over again as if you’ve just started the fight.

This strategy is pretty darn reliable and should result in a TKO in under 90 seconds.
