[03:33] How To Beat Culex

Culex is no joke, and is in fact, 5 monsters. Culex himself, and his 4 crystals. These crystals are elementally coded and make it so AOE magic damage is functionally worthless.

Culex will attack 5 times per turn and this is why he is so dangerous. The trick is to survive Culex and slowly destroy his Crystals. With each Crystal that is defeated, Culex’s damage output will drastically decrease. Once you have defeated two or three Crystals you should be in a position where Culex is starting to struggle to deal substantial life-threatening damage. It is at this point you want to focus him down.

You are rewarded with one of the best items in the entire game, the Quartz Charm. This accessory DOUBLES your damage dealt whilst HALVING the damage you take whilst also making your IMMUNE to ONE HIT KNOCKOUTS. This is ludicrously powerful and a key piece to any build looking to tackle the Post-Game.

[08:02] How To Unlock The Post-Game

The Post-Game is automatically unlocked after watching the credits. You will be asked to save your game, and then you are good to go. Toad will arrive and hand you a Voucher. Head to the Marrymore Inn, slap down your voucher and go for a sleep in the suite.

Upon awaking from your slumber, Geno will mention a strange light coming from Star Hill. Head to Star Hill and you will find new wishes! Next, head to the Frog Sage in Tadpole Pond and he’ll guide you towards a boss that needs slaying. There are six bosses in total, plus on extra super ultra hard boss. These are Jinx, Punchinello, Booster, Bundt, our fishy friend, Jonathan Jones, and Belome. Topping it all off is the return of Culex.

[09:47] Tips On Defeating Jonathan Jones: Jonathan Jones, the currant-juice loving shark pirate in the Sunken Ship is clobbered just like any other boss. He has all his same tricks and is very straightforward all things considered. He is the most important boss here, however, since when he is defeated, he hands you the Extra Shiny Stone. This is required to fight the super secret post game boss, Culex.

[10:16] Tips On Defeating Jinx: You are going to need to Perfect Block and Perfect Attack to build it up quickly. You can find Jinx in Monstro Town.

[11:04] Tips On Defeating Punchinello & Bundt: Punchinello is easier to beat than Jinx simply because his primary method of attack. Use Peach’s sleep spell to disable the bombs and then land a Perfect Hit to turn them around. Rinse and repeat until you are done. Bundt is weak to more or less the same strategy. Pop a sleep spell, and then go to town. You can find Punchinello in the Coal Mines and Bundt in Marrymore.

[11:33] Tips On Defeating Booster: Booster is all about having Sniffits to help him out. You can deal with them pretty easily by using Geno Whirl. This ability, when timed perfectly, will inflict 9999 damage to a very small selection of enemies in the game. Sniffits are one of them. You can find Booster in Booster Tower.

[12:40] How To Defeat Culex 3D

To fight Culex 3D, we HIGHLY recommend you reach at least level 26, however hitting level 30 will make the fight noticeably easier. You are going to need to use some choice equipment here too, as anything less than the best is going to leave you feeling a bit raw after Culex 3D gets to smashing. We recommend grabbing the Lazy Shell Armour and Weapon, the Super Suit, Safety Badge, Quartz Charm, Jinx Belt, and Attack Scarf. Of all these items, the Attack Scarf and Super Suit are the hardest to get since you need to perfectly time 30 and 100 super jumps consecutively. If you can’t get them, then the best armor you can buy plus Zoom Shoes or Booster’s Charm make solid alternatives.

You also want to have plenty of items on hand. Red Essence grant invulnerability and is very handy for avoiding the endless tirade of attacks coming your way early on. Nabbing Chero Cola from the Juice Bar to get full HP and FP restoration is great too, as are revival items. Fill up on the best items in the game before even attempting this boss.

Culex will start a countdown before unleashing a super attack. Make sure your entire party is healed to full, swap Peach out so she doesn’t get deleted, and then bring her back in to heal. Culex’s killer attack deals maximum damage. The only way to survive is if you’re at 100% health.

Another strategy to use – collect lots of Rock Candy and use it constantly with Mario when equipped with the Quartz Charm for max damage. Use Geno’s Ultimate Special or Mallow’s every time while Peach heals. Dish out about 600 damage per turn, and you should be able to destroy all the crystals in four full turns.
