Today is Timburr Community Day, one of the long waited Pokemon to be featured in this event.

Conkeldurr, the final evolution of Timburr, has 233 base HP, 243 base Attack and 158 base defense. Its well known moveset is Counter/Dynamic Punch as a raid attacker, which is identical to Machamp’s raid moveset. Machamp, in the other hand, has 207 base HP, 234 base attack and 159 base defense. Since Conkeldurr is running same moveset as Machamp with those stats difference, Conkeldurr is usually regarded as a /”better Machamp/”.

However, Timburr was not available in wild outside of special events like Go Fest, and it was mostly available in raid/egg only for a long time, which hurts its practical usage as a /”better Machamp/”.

With Timburr Community Day, it is now possible to build a Conkeldurr team as a budget team. Especially for new players who are in need for a Fighting-type raid team, Timburr Community Day is the best opportunity to prepare for Darkrai’s return later in this month.

Gurdurr appear as Tier 4 raid boss starts from 5pm, defeating Gurdurr in raid would change the wild spawns near the gym into Timburr. As a raid boss, it has 154 attack and 117 defense. As a mono Fighting-type Pokemon it is weak against Flying/Psychic/Fairy type.

With Gurdurr being weak to the two strongest types in raid battles, it is not exactly difficult to defeat Gurdurr as Solo Raid. However, without weather boost damage bonus, Shadow Mewtwo and Mega Rayquaza are the only two counters that can outrace the timer.

This time, Mega Rayquaza is used against Gurdurr. As stated before, Mega Rayquaza is not a /”glassy/” Pokemon even among Mega Evolutions. In the other hand, Gurdurr has Poison Jab/Low Kick as fast move and Low Sweep/Brick Break/Stone Edge as charged moves.

While Stone Edge and Poison Jab hits Mega Rayquaza considerably hard, the low base power on Gurdurr’s Fighting-type moves cannot threaten Mega Rayquaza after applying the type-effectiveness multiplier. If Gurdurr has only Fighting-type moves, Mega Rayquaza can defeat Gurdurr as a Solo Raid without any help from other Pokemon or healing, even in Cloudy weather where Gurdurr’s Fighting-type moves receive weather boost damage bonus.

As a sidenote, since Low Sweep/Brick Break is a 3-bar moves, it is time costly to dodge them all. While Mega Rayquaza can defeat Gurdurr without relobby if it dodges those moves, it does not achieve better result to just tank those moves and rejoin once.

PokeBattler sim for this battle:

Speed: 167.3s
Dodges: 24
Difficulty(by PoGoRaid standard): WQ12 (range from 7-14)

Battle Result:

Speed: 176s
Dodges: 20
Efficiency Score: 94.0
My difficulty rating(based on execution): 10/10

Comment:

It is true that Mega Rayquaza can defeat Gurdurr as a 1v1 Solo Raid. Yes, that’s true on paper. However, there is a little problem to achieve that in reality. Air Slash has a 1.2s move cooldown while Low Sweep/Brick Break has a 1.3s/0.8s damage windows. Which means without waiting, it is impossible to dodge Brick Break perfectly. In the other hand, it requires heavy concentration to avoid overtapping such that Low Sweep can be dodged.

While using Air Slash and dodging Low Sweep/Brick Break at the same time is already tricky enough, that’s not the only problem. Dragon Ascent has a 3.5s move cooldown, which is one of the slowest charged move. Obviously, using Dragon Ascent blindly would cause Mega Rayquaza being locked into move cooldown when Gurdurr uses Low Sweep/Brick Break.

However, the real problem is, it is not safe to fit a Dragon Ascent between Low Sweep/Brick Break either. Unfortunately, trying to use Dragon Ascent right after those moves is still the best strategy to avoid Mega Rayquaza being locked into Dragon Ascent cooldown, and it is necessary to pray Gurdurr has longer move cooldown on its charged moves or it does not use charged move as its next move in order to successfully dodge Low Sweep/Brick Break while using Dragon Ascent.

As you can see in the raid execution, Mega Rayquaza’s TDO is rather tight on Low Sweep Gurdurr, with only 1 misdodge (and 1 desync hit) throughout the raid. Overall, it is a very hard 1v1 Solo raid where it is hard to dodge all charged moves perfectly but it is necessary to play rather optimally in order to complete the 1v1 solo raid.

Brick Break differs from Low Sweep significantly for this 1v1 Solo Raid. Mega Rayquaza can afford missing more dodges on Brick Break Gurdurr, but it is much harder to dodge Brick Break in return, since even fast move spamming is not safe. In the other hand, as you can see in this raid execution, there is not much extra time to play safe on dodging charged move. Low Sweep allows more consistent raid execution, while it is also less forgiving to any mistake in return.
