In Chrono Trigger for the SNES, Robo’s Crisis Arm weapon is probably the most powerful piece of equipment in the whole game.

After finishing Robo’s special end game sidequest during The Fated Hour chapter, Robo will receive his two ultimate weapons: The Terra Arm and the Crisis Arm. These are the weapons Robo acquires after defeating Mother Brain (not from Super Metroid).

While the Terra Arm appears to be statistically superior to the Crisis Arm, the Crisis Arm has a special ability.

The item description for the Crisis Arm reads /”Attack changes below 10 HP/” which implies that when equipped, Robo’s attack formula will change when his HP is a single digit total.

However, it turns out that Robo’s attack formula changes regardless of his total HP, and his damage will be multiplied by the last digit of his current HP even when his current HP is 10 or greater.

This ability is just as good as you think it is. Toward the end of the game when Robo has 999 maximum HP, it’s fairly easy to keep the last digit of his HP at 9, which means Robo can output some insane damage numbers. In the example provided in the video, I was able to deal over 5000 damage to Lavos with a single Uzzi Punch.

So for that reason, the Crisis Arm is pretty much the best piece of equipment in the game.

Again, I don’t think this mechanic was intended by the programmers, since the description of the item implies that this damage increase is only supposed to happen when Robo’s HP total is less than 10. Therefore, I consider this to be a Chrono Trigger glitch!

I named him R69-Y because I am very funny.
