To do this we need to install a mod which will allow use to edit our game. And for this we need to install a mod manager which will install the mod.
Step 1. Download and install the /”Unit Mod Manager/” application

You can download it to any location on your PC. Once downloaded it’ll need to be unzipped. I suggest to create a folder to unzip it to. This will also allow you to download any mods you wish to use into this folder later on.
Your antivirus might pick the app up as a virus. If it does (do this at your own risk) you will need to retrieve the files and add in an exception to stop it happening again. I have instructions in the video how to do this using Avast but this will differ for other antivirus software.
Step 2. Download the mod

It can be downloaded to any location but I would suggest keeping it in the same folder (or a sub folder) where you extracted the app to.
Step 3. Open the app.
Head into the folder where you extracted the zip file. Look for an exe called UnityModManager and open it. Here you’ll see 3 tabs at the top. Make sure its on the install tab.
3a. Under game choose Derail Valley. It should choose the folder automatically but if not locate your Steam folder. After that the game should be in the following path.
/”SteamLibrary//steamapps//common//Derail Valley/”
Click the install button.
3b. Click the mods tab. Next locate the mod you downloaded in your file explorer. This will be a zip file. You do not need to unzip it. Drag it into the software at the bottom of the page where it says Drop Files here.
The mod is now installed. You can now open the game.
Once opened you’ll see a new popup window which will show the mod (plus any other mods you install). Make sure on the right hand side it is enabled. At the bottom left you can now close this popup.
Open sandbox mode. Once the game loads top left you’ll see a button with a /”U/” in it. Click left ALT on your keyboard to get mouse mode and click on the button. This will bring up the cheat menu. Here you can unlock the locos and do various other things. Click the button again to close the cheat menu and press the ALT button once more to remove mouse mode.
You are done and now have access to all the locos.
The mod and mod manager are working at Sept 2023 but may not in the future. Any game update could break the integration.
