When looking at the classes in DND, it’s hard to argue that at a certain point, spellcasting doesn’t feel a lot more powerful that martial classes. But why is that? Well, join me today as we discuss it, and see where we end up! Martials VS Spellcasters, who reigns supreme?

*** ABOUT ME ***
Hello! My name is Jay, and I am a long-time veteran of storytelling and a semi-seasoned DM! I began playing Dungeons and Dragons roughly 5 years ago and began my first ever game as the DM. I figured things out by watching online games and fumbling my way through the rules, and never looked back! I’ve fallen in love with TTRPG’s in general and want to share my experience and thoughts with the world and community I love so much. I currently DM two separate games regularly, and continue to learn every day.

SCRIPT EXCERPT: (This isn’t important, just stuff for the algorithm)

Why do casters feel so much more powerful, and scale so much harder, than martial classes in DND 5th edition?

It’s kind of an interesting topic, and one I’m just a little afraid to touch one because… Well, I don’t usually talk shop about mechanics. I’ll mention them, sure, but anyone who’s watched enough of my videos can pretty easily sus out that I am much more about the empathic and higher concept stuff in Tabletop RPG’s as opposed to the nitty gritty rules.

And that’s for two reasons: one, I’m not really… Qualified to talk about the rules since there are so many other awesome youtubers out there who have game design degrees and hours of content on this and two: Well… It’s no secret that the dungeons and dragons community can get kinda toxic really fast when you say something about the rules that they disagree with.

But, I haven’t strayed from controversial topics in the past and I don’t really intend to specifically talk about the balance of this today. More just… The reason it exists, and how dungeon masters and players can offset this in order to have the best game possible?

Good deal? Good deal.

Then let’s get to the topic of the video and discuss: spell casting, and why it scales so strangely in the DND 5th edition we love today.

I want to talk about the weave of magic and the very lifeblood of the worlds of DnD.

I want to talk about magic.

So, let’s talk about that.
