Why should you play Super Metroid? In less than a minute!
Just like any other Metroid, it is atmospheric beyond belief, with rain sound effects and a soundtrack that was composed /”to make sounds that a planet would make/”.
However, Super Metroid is acclaimed for a reason: It defined Metroidvanias. It was the first Metroid game to force backtracking and make you remember an interconnected world.
The game is obviously not linear, and you’ll find yourself going through previous areas multiple times. This doesn’t mean that it feels repetitive, quite the opposite, every time you return to a previous area you feel stronger than before.
Super Metroid also has some Sequence Breaking, letting you collect items early or avoid some altogether, making the game even more replayable.
However, despite being known as a timeless classic, Super Metroid shows its years in some clunky aspects, such as the wall jumping or even the ammo system, but this is just a minor inconvenience and the game still holds up by today’s standards.
To summarize, Super Metroid is a timeless classic that can be replayed multiple times and that defined a genre full of backtracking and a feeling of progression through the game.
